My Fellow Rotarians,

With the fast paced world of today, sometimes it’s easy to let life pass us by without paying too much attention- easy to forget about the little things and how much they can make a difference.  With so many things to “get done”, sometimes we can lose sight of WHY we are doing them.  I want this year to be a year of remembering the little things, what brought us to Rotary and what keeps us here.  Not only have I become a member of Woodbury Breakfast Rotary Club, but much more importantly, Woodbury Breakfast Rotary Club has become a part of me.  I hope that this year we as members remember how just out of something as simple as a weekly breakfast together, we can make a difference in so many people’s lives, including our own.  Rotary’s theme of”service above self” has shown me how important it is to be there for others and in the process somehow, has made me more complete as a person.  Our club’s contribution to the world through our members’ time, resources and many service projects is something I see as only getting stronger over the next year. One of the things I remember most about my first meeting at Woodbury Breakfast is not only that that our club was involved with so many great service projects in the community, but also that they were having fun doing it.   Rotary helps me to look at life differently- not as a checklist of things to “get done”, but rather as something that can be enjoyed and as something that can really positively affect so many lives in so many different ways.

Even though it’s just begun, this Rotary year will be over before you know it.  This time next year, I want to look back and know that Woodbury Breakfast paid attention to the little things- the things that often matter the most.  Whether it’s paddling a kayak, serving chicken dinners, or holiday shopping for children- I will know that we made a difference and that we had a LOT of fun along the way.  Thanks Woodbury Breakfast for rubbing off on me…Here’s to a great year!

Yours in Rotary,

Mike Powers
